Archaeology Concentration Featured on the Archaeological Society of NJ鈥檚 Newsletter

's Archaeology concentration is featured on the 's newsletter (March Edition). Assistant Professor Bobbi Hornbeck describes how the program has been revamped in the last two years to make experiential learning in its core. A new program has been reframed to give students more opportunities to gain knowledge through direct experience and practical application.Students "excavate cultural landscapes, preserve artifacts, and make archival materials accessible to the public, contributing work that has immediate relevance beyond the classroom."
The program is also looking forward towards an exciting future that promises further growth. A laboratory is being developed at 淫性视频, and is due to open in Fall 2026. Students in the program willl have a top-quality designated area to apply what they learn in the classroom and expand their opportunites for archaeological research.

Faculty & Staff Co-Author A New Childhood Studies Textbook

Last Tuesday,February 17th, the hosted a successful book signing event at the Lakeside Lodge, Galloway Campus. The event celebrated twelve 淫性视频 faculty and staff who co-authored and edited a new Childhood Studies textboook titled Perspectives on Childhood. Out of  the twelve, nine were SOBL faculty and staff

It was a great opportunity for the audience to engage with the authors in a Q&A session to hear about the authors' writing and editing process, as well as how the textbook got published.

Students Presented Their Research at the ASNJ 2026

On January 17th, seven students from the Sociology Anthropology program had the incredible opportunity to present their research at the

The first group of student presenters included Reagan Honeycutt, Corey Snyder, and Alexandra Zimmerman. They presented a poster entitled Efficacy of Typological Analysis: A Case Study. As described by their professor and mentor, Professor Bobbi Hornbeck, their research project "used the Richard Cook Collection to explore the effectiveness of using typology to establish provenience for artifacts that lack contextual information."

The second group included Rain Crowley, Sage Rosenberg, Maggie Ledden, and Mae Gant. They presented a paper titled Trowel and Error: Undergraduate-Student Driven Fieldwork at the Cresse-Holmes House. As noted by Professor Hornbeck,their presentation highlighted "the Digging History Project collaboration between the Museum of Cape May County and our 淫性视频鈥檚 archaeology program." 

The students' projects were evaluated and selected by the ASNJ Conference Committee based on their relevance to mid-Atlantic archaeology. This opportunity reflects the strength of student research and faculty mentorship at 淫性视频.

We congratulate our students on this achievement and thank Professor Hornbeck and all our faculty mentors who supported their research and contributed to their professional growth.

SOBL Faculty Present Their Research at GSA Conference

Jessica Fleck and Hannah Wolfe, two of our , were among 淫性视频 faculty who presented their research at the  last November in Boston. 

Professor Fleck presented with two of her students, Katherine Wilkinson and Tanya Sharma. Their research focused on  鈥Understanding Successful Aging: The Power of Growth Mindsets and Openness to Experience.鈥 As explained by Fleck, the objective of the study is to demonstrate how "people who participate in activities that protect the brain build more cognitive reserve, which helps the brain sustain normal function even as it declines physically."

Hannah Wolfe, on the other hand, led a symposium titled  鈥Emotion Regulation, Cognition, and Well-Being Across the Adult Lifespan鈥, which demonstrated the ability of older people to regulate their emotions better than younger individuals, despite the decline in cognative abilities that may come with age.

Congratulations Dr. Col贸n on Being Selected for the Inaugural Cohort of ADLA!

We are very proud to announce that Dr. Merydawida Col贸n, SOBL's Associate Dean for Accreditation and Experiential Learning and Professor of Social Work, has been selected as a member of the inaugural cohort of the Associate Dean Leadership Accelerator (ADLA) program.This leadership program is in partnership with the American Conference of Academic Deans ().

"I am honored to be selected for the inaugural Associate Dean Leadership Accelerator cohort, and thankful for the opportunity." says Dr. Colon " I look forward to joining a community of associate deans, enhancing my leadership skills, and learning from others as we navigate changes in higher education" she continues.    
It is a unique opportunity for Dr. Colon to benefit from and contribute to the learning of this first cohort of associate deans, and to also build relationships with other associate deans from colleges and universities across the country.

Social Work Alumna Among the Five Admitted to VCU's Ph.D. Program

Liliana Morales graduated from 淫性视频 with both a Bachelor of Science in Social Work (Class of 2022) and a Master of Social Work (Class 2023). Her passion and desire to make a difference in the life of others, and the underserved populations in particular, has led her to pursue a Ph.D. She was one of the five students to be admitted to Virginia Commonwealth University's (VCU) Social Work's Ph.D. Program, one of the

Liliana gives a lot of credit to Dr. Lisa Cox, Professor of Social Work, for her decision to continue her academic journey and for choosing VCU's Ph.D. program specifically. Liliana served as a research assistant for Dr. Lisa Cox, whom she considers a mentor.

Assistant Professor of Social Work Joining Prestigious National Fellow Mentoring Program

Assistant Professor of Social Work, Zan Haggerty, has been selected by the (AASWSW) to join its mentoring program as an early-career scholar. AASWSW is one of the most prestigious fellow mentoring programs in the nation. Professor Haggerty will be mentored by some of the most distinguished social work and social welfare scholars in the country.

Professor Haggerty is also among our social work faculty members who will be presenting their scholarly work at the in October. Both Professor Nicole Cantoni and Professor Sunny Mathew will be presenting at this annual meeting as well.

SOBL is extremely excited and proud of its faculty members, who are dedicated to life-long learning and committed to achieving excellence in the classroom and within their respective fields of research.

Through a new partnership with The American Public Human Services Association (), 淫性视频 is able to offer social work continuing education (CE) credits to participants in APHSA's conferences and professional development opportunities. 

As a result, participants in the upcoming , are able to earn up to six hours of continuing education (CE) credits during the conference. A list of approved CE breakout sessions at the conference is linked below.

淫性视频 is authorized to offer continuing education credits for social work in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Connecticut, and Massachusetts for social work licensure and certification renewal by the licensure boards in these states.

A 淫性视频 Interdisciplinary Study Around Police and Community Dynamics Has Recently Been Published

A study led by Professors Jess Bonnan-White, Elizabeth B. Erbaugh, Alysia M. Mastrangelo, William McKnight, Richard Mulvihill and Christine Tartaro has been recently published in the Journal of Community Safety & Well-Being (CSWB), Volume 10, N0. 2

The study is part of an interdisciplinary research project that started in 2018 to examine the root causes of the conflict between the police and the public. This latest study examined the level of trust held by police compared to that of the community.

Psychology Faculty and Students Present at the 2025 APA Division 45 Conference

Professor Nordia Scott, along with Professor Kaite Yang and Professor Zornitsa Kalibatseva, had a remarkable presence at the 8th Biennial APA Division 45 Research Conference last July. 

Professor Nordia Scott chaired, authored and co-authored three presentations. She chaired a symposium titled Pedagogical Considerations for Diverse Students: Exploring Racial Attitudes, Belonging & Climate. Professors Kalibatseva, Scott and Yang  also presented alongside Professor Milton Fuentes from Montclair State University. Their presentations examined topics such as racial and ethnic identity, campus climate and attitudes towards race, mental health of US college students, and strategies to improve academic outcomes of minority college students. Furthremore, Professor Scott co-led a presentation with Professor Ashlee Barnes-Lee from Michigan State University entitled Race and Racism Education Across the Curriculum: Exploring its Impacts Across Race and Gender.

Psychology student, Dora Kara, had the invaluable opportunity to co-present with Professor Kalibatseva at the symposium, while Mikaili Philbert co-authored a poster presentation with Professor Scott.

The American Psychological Association Division 45 supports research on minoritized communities.The conference was held July 23-25, 2025 at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI.

In partnership with the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming,Hospitality and Tourism (LIGHT), School of Behavioral and Social Sciences and the Office of Student Development, 淫性视频 Model UN  took six 淫性视频 students to Kyoto, Japan to participate in the from June 27-29, 2025. The conference centered on sustainable tourism, which provided the student with insightly experience on international tourism.

Another Successful Summer CSI Camp has just concluded

For 19 years, 淫性视频's CSI Summer Camp has offered high school students, who come from various U.S regions and sometimes beyond, with exciting hands-on experience with criminal investigation and trial.The Camp has provided these young campers with opportunities to sharpen their critical thinking and problem solving skills. It has also been a wonderful opportunity to have fun and make some new friends.

Three camps were planned this year (2025). One from July 6th to the 10th, the second from July 13th to the 17th, and the last one from July 20th to the 24th.  In each camp, the young campers had to investigate a separate murder case.

Congratulations to the Camp Directors, Dr. Josh Duntley & Dr. Christine Tartaro, and to all their supporting team!

Hilda Rivera, Assistant Coordinator of BSSW Practicum Education, was recognized last night, July 10th, at the Hispanic Association of Atlantic City (HAAC) event at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. 

Ms. Rivera brings supervisory and experience in mental and behavioral health with children and families to her position as assistant coordinator of the practicum education for our students in the Bachelor of Science in Social Work.She was among the guests honored for their excellent contribution to the Hispanic community. She was the recipient of the 2025 Nuestro Pueblo Education Excellence Award.

Immigration Revisited

As a follow up to Fall 2024 research, Professor of Economics Dr. Ramya Vijaya and 淫性视频 Economics undergraduate student Tatiana Shukovsky examined the latest county-level U.S. Census data to assess immigrants鈥 contributions to the New Jersey workforce.

In a new episode of Hughes Center Conversations, Dr. Vijaya shared the findings and debunked a number of immigration-related myths in her conversation with Ms. Alyssa Maurice, the Head of Research at the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy.

Spring 2025 Graduate Research Symposium

On Monday, April 28th, graduate students presented their final research and capstone projects at the annual Graduate Research Symposium. The event is a celebration of 淫性视频's student scholars, their hard work, dedication and commitment to academic excellence. It is also an acknowledgement of the devotion of 淫性视频 faculty who served as advisors, mentors and cheerleaders for these students by sharing their passion for research and expertise in the subject matter.

SOBL was well represented by the excellent and interesting presentations of five graduate students:

  • From the MA in Counseling program, three students had their poster presentations : Gabrielle Friel and Trinity Meads who were both mentored by Dr. Erin Sappio, and Ashley Valentino who was mentored by Dr. Kate Worley. 
  • From the MA in Criminal Justice program,  Abigail S. Jacobo and Madison Nagel presented their research project which was supervised and guided by both Dr. Christine Tartaro and Dr. Kimberley Schanz.

We are so proud of the work that these SOBL students have put into their research projects, and we are very appreciative of the mentorship of our SOBL faculty who generously shared their knowledge, their research expertise and their passion for academic excellence.

Political Science Professors Win "Most Promising Textbook Award"


Engaging Citizenship, An Introduction to Political Science, a texbook co-authored by Dr. Lauren Balasco, Dr. Claire Abernathy and Dr. Jennifer Forestal, was granted the "Most Promising New Textbook" Award by The .

Textbooks receive this honor after having gone through thorough inspection and evaluation by textbook authors and subject matter experts for their merits in four areas: Pedagogy, Content/Scholarship, Writing, Appearance & Design.

BCWEP 20th Annual Recognition Ceremony

Last Friday, April 11, 2025, , (BCWEP) had its 20th Annual Recognition Ceremony of its program trainees and practicum instructors. The event was also a celebration of the program's 20 year anniversary.

It was in 2005 that a consortium  was formed between 淫性视频's Child Welfare Education Institute (CWEI) and several other higher education institutions. The program was established in an effort to help recruit, prepare and support the next generation of social workers.

At the event, the program alumni described how the program was instrumental in preparing them to take on the challenges of child welfare social work and supplying them with the tools and support they need to persist and thrive as child welfare social workers.

A Very Unique Partnership With Police To Analyze Community Interactions


Criminal Justice Professor Bonnan-White has worked this past year with Sergeant Craig Clayton, from the Hamilton Township Police Department and a 淫性视频 Alum, on a quantitative study of how community members and local police interact.

The goal of the parnership is to help develop data-informed policing policies and straegies.The project has offered Criminal Justice students opportunities for real-world application of the policing theories they learn about in the classroom. The project aims at forging strong relationships among 淫性视频, the community and the police.

Spring 2025 Criminal Justice Career Series

Women in Criminal Justice: A Panel Discussion with ACPO Representatives
In collaboration with the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office (ACPO), the Criminal Justice Career Series hosted last Tuesday, April 8th, a panel discussion around women in leadership positions within the many areas of the criminal justice system. 

Representatives from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office included Chief Assistant Prosecutor Erika Halayko, Detective Nina Mitchel, Forensic Nurse Sarah McGaffney, and Victim Advocate Keri Roberts. The panelists shared information about their career trajectory, and they addressed questions about the challenges women may face in the field. The questions were asked by Criminal Justice Professor Kim Schanz, Dean Marissa Levy, and two criminal justice students: Violet Vogel and Danielle Sharra.

The event was a great opportunity for 淫性视频 students to connect with women criminal justice practitioners and to learn from their experiences to help them pave their career pathway as future leaders in the field of criminal justice.

The event is part of an annual collaboration that the Criminal justice Career Series has had with the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. Both 淫性视频's Criminal Justice program and the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office are looking forward to next year, with another enlightening and empowering session for our students.

New Criminal Justice Program


On January 2025, 淫性视频's Criminal Justice Program received its final approval from the for a new degree in Criminal Justice.

Starting September 2025, the Criminal Justice program will be offering a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.The current Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice will be transitioned out as current students graduate.

Congratulations, Payton Eckell!

Congratulations to Payton for being accepted into the University of Delaware Criminology Ph.D program, one of the best programs in the nation.  She is one of six students across ten countries to be accepted into this program, with six years of guaranteed funding.

Payton's major is Psychology with a concentration in Forensic Psychology. She is working on a Psychology Project for Distinction under the mentorship of both Dr. Deeanna Button, Chair & Professor of Criminal Justice, and Dr. Zornista Kalibatseva, Associate Professor of Psychology. Her study is focused on sexual assault and help-seeking.

Getting a Ph.D has been a long-time goal for Payton, and she feels so appreciative for the support and mentorship she has received from 淫性视频 and its wonderful faculty.

New SCOSA Professional Training Program Starts March 2025


In collaboration with , 淫性视频 Center on Successful Aging (SCOSA) will offer a new online certificate program for Elder Care Coordinators who work at LCPLFA member firms. It is a 15-week post-baccalaureate professional education certificate program.

Criminal Justice Professors Study How COVID 19 Affected Police Response to Calls

Distinguished Professor of Criminal Justice Christine Tartaro and Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Ruibin Lu have studied how COVID 19 affected Atlantic City Police response to mental health-related calls . Among the objectives of the study is to "help the police, the city and other agencies to prepare and allocate resources more wisely.鈥
The study is a collaboration between 淫性视频, the Atlantic City Police Department and Jewish Family Service of Atlantic City & Cape May Counties.
